How about I had that moment at Xavier's Back 2 School Night last night when I thought, "Oh shoot! We 'bout to fight!" LOL!
You know back to school nights. Crazy, crowded, not very well organized. We followed the boy to where he swore we were supposed to start - the Cafeteria - and that was a total bust. Lame. None of his teachers. So we moved on to find his math and science teacher. But we took 3 steps out of the cafeteria and my husband (aka Father of the Year) turns to our 1st born and says, "Point out the kids who've been picking on you." OMG. I stopped cold. My thoughts? This is about to get really awkward. And then I got a little bit of a nervous giggle. You know the kind when you feel something's a brewin'? I tried to lighten the moment and said, "Oh, come on babe. Really?" He turned on his heels and looked me right in the eye, "I want to see the kids messing with my son!" And there it was! That creeping feeling that I'm sure teenage hoodlums get when a bad idea starts to sound like a really good one baby! Yeah! Let's find these little $%!#$! Mess with my baby!!! We both turn to the boy. "I saw 1 of them back there." He points back to the cafeteria. It was awesome. Never before have I felt like the 3 of us all moved so succinctly. It was like we were choreographed!
We were like lions stalking our prey, my husband and I, slowly surveying the room. Our son's head bobbing up and down as he tried to look over the throngs of people to point out his nemesis. That's when the next thought hit me, "Oh shoot! We 'bout to fight!" And then my brain kicked in… Really Bonnie? Is this who you are? You're hunting a child (in all fairness, bully)? No. This is not who I am. Truthfully, maybe RD… but not me. ;) I think my hubby had the same inner conversation. Because his walk no longer looked so menacing. Luckily, Xavier lost sight of his assailant. RD looked at me and said, "I just really wanted to see his parents. I just wanted to have a talk with them. That's all." lol. Yeah, right! I saw that look in your eyes. When the thought first hit you you were looking for blood! But thankfully cooler heads, and good luck on that other kid's part, prevailed. No bully beat-down that night. Whew! How embarrassing would that news story have been for me?
We moved on to the Math and Science section which was set up like a "Math Fair". It was fun! I KILLED at the Algebra I and II booths! Daddy stood in the lines for me and Xavier and then the boy and I got to challenge one another in the games. Some games I patiently and lovingly stood to the side and helped him to solve the equations and others I dominated with great ENTHUSIASM! RD had his nerve to get embarrassed at one of the booths saying that I was getting "too excited". Says the guy who was trying to confront a 6th grader a half-hour earlier. Hahaha! Hater. Sometimes I feel like he's intimidated by my mind. ;-P lol.
We ended the night by turning in our punch card for attending all of the booths and redeeming popcorn as our reward and my boy earned a little extra credit. Sometimes we get a little crazy with the parenting but in the end we know what's up… Our children. Their happiness. Their safety. Their well-being. And our adventures together. With as little violence as possible. ;) <3
Ha!ha!ha!ha! back to school night never sounded this exciting:) Lucky for the bully & cooler heads lol. Funny thing I can so see RD's face with his "calm down getting too excited" look at the Math booths. Let your inner nerdiness shine:) By the way I LOVE that your blogging
